HEAR HUMS
Spent the morning enjoying an album from Florida three piece Hear Hums.
Think early Animal Collective and Beaches & Canyons era Black Dice.
Download Psyche Cycles here or stream below.

LEE RANALDO // SONIC YOUTH MIXTAPE →
(Click the title to download - to retain track order please create a new playlist in iTunes and drag the file into it to import).
I’m off to see Sonic Youth tonight for what must be at least the 25th occasion of doing so. One of my all-time favourite bands.
In honour of this, here’s a compilation of Lee Ranaldo-led SY tracks (inspired by this ILX thread).
1. Mote (from Goo, 1990)...

DJ YO YO DIETING
A mangled, warped and altogether damaged ninety minute 2009 tape from DJ Yo Yo Dieting (titled ‘Regurgitation As Birth’) is available for free download here.
The music is sort of rooted in chopped & screwed hiphop but manages to slur and smear itself into all kinds of places.

MOTION SICKNESS OF TIME TRAVEL
The other main obsession for me this past week has been Motion Sickness Of Time Travel, the alias of Rachel Evans.
I came to her via the Seeping Through The Veil Of The Unconscious tape…
“Evans concocts six whirlwind romances all in the space of an hour. beauty, magic and bleeding effervescence come together in perfect harmony. vague electro meanderings hide hints of early grouper...

This wonderful vinyl rip of previously unreleased demos and instrumentals by The Smiths has been doing the rounds online for a couple of weeks so I thought I should share it.
I came across the link via Doom & Gloom From The Tomb; an ever excellent blog that offers “A selection of rad bootlegs. Mostly live”.
You can find a thorough dissection of the recordings here.

RAFAEL ANTON IRISARRI
Rafael Anton Irisarri has made four live sets available for free download (click Buy then enter $0). I’ve yet to hear it all but if the rest is as good as the London set then this is essential.

WOLF PEOPLE
Dorney Reach by Wolf People
Tiny Circles by Wolf People
Been a long-time supporter of these heroes. Probably my favourite British live band of the year. I can’t think of many gigs I’ve enjoyed more than the times I’ve spent seeing ‘em across London’s basements, function rooms and working men’s clubs.
Pumped for their Cargo gig in February.
The two...

VALLEY MAKER
I listened to this album a whole bunch over the last twelve months.
Still nails me when the female harmony parts come in on The First. Every time.
Blows my mind a little too, to know that the record was submitted as part of a senior thesis on Genesis.

HEDIA
LIBRA by Hedia
Before I started this blog Hedia were one of the bands I first planned to write about. Clearly I got distracted, but anyhow.
I think I stumbled upon them via the Digitalis Twitter, which spoke highly of their Libra tape. I tracked down a copy and played it to death.
I guess the closest reference point is Rachel’s and given how much I love that band’s Systems/Layers...

EVAN CAMINITI
Thunder Breaks The Dawn by Evan Caminiti
Night Of The Archon by Evan Caminiti
I love this time of year for catching up on all the stuff that passed me by, as I plough through best of 2010 lists. These Evan Caminiti tracks are my favourite of this morning’s discoveries. Dude is one half of Barn Owl, whose Ancestral Star LP I’ve been really enjoying of late.
As always,...

HEAVY WINGED
Breathe Life by Heavy Winged
Along with Digitalis, Type, for me, has been one of the most consistently excellent labels of 2010. They show no signs of slowing either, with Heavy Winged’s Sunspotted (that the above track is taken from) dropping just last week.
Bizarre weather in London today. The blizzard stopped and now the sun is out…
