GUEST MIXTAPE - BENJAMIN JOHN POWER

A guest mixtape kindly submitted by my friend Benjamin John Power…
“There’s a period of Dancehall from the early to mid 80’s where electronic instrumentation and sampling became a lot more prominent. The Sleng Teng Riddim, produced on Casio MT 40 was the first use of digital rhythm, and artists such as Cutty Ranks, Burro Banton and Tenor Saw were also gaining recognition around this time.
There’s a particular video of Cutty Ranks performing at Stereomars in ‘86 that first switched me onto this gritty digital dancehall sound and led me to keep clicking on related videos.
This uncovered a whole bunch of gems and a snapshot of an era of Dancehall that has not been bettered since, not even close. This here, is a compilation of those findings.”
