DOUG HREAM BLUNT

The big one for me this week has been Doug Hream Blunt’s LP Gentle Persuasion. A recently rediscovered album of hazy outsider funk that sounds like it was made either in the early 80’s or the last 12 months.
The only background I have been able to find on the guy is this interview and this review on the Aquarius Records site.
The album was apparently recorded in San Francisco in 2000 by Blunt and a cobbled together backing band of music students, making its way into the wider world ten years later when Blunt dropped off copies to Aquarius in person.
The video below is so timely and perfect it’s like a hypnagogic pastiche of itself. I’m half expecting Ariel Pink to come forward in a few years and admit he made the whole thing up.
And with that in mind, bringing everything full circle is the Hype Williams song Get Choong And Look At The Sky which samples the title track.
